Classification of Osmometers

Osmotic pressure gauges are mainly classified based on measurement principles, and common types include:

-Freezing point osmometer: Using the principle of solution freezing point drop (Raoult's law), the osmotic pressure is calculated by measuring the value of solution freezing point drop. It is currently a widely used type and suitable for most biological samples.

-Dew point osmometer: Based on the principle of solution vapor pressure drop, the osmotic pressure is calculated by measuring the dew point temperature of the sample. It is commonly used for heat sensitive samples (such as protein solutions).

-Colloidal osmometer: specifically used to measure the osmotic pressure of colloidal solutions (such as plasma), mainly reflecting the osmotic pressure produced by large molecular substances (such as proteins).

The main purpose of osmotic pressure gauge

-Clinical testing: Detecting the osmotic pressure of biological samples such as blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid to assist in the diagnosis of dehydration, water intoxication, renal dysfunction, and other diseases.

-Pharmaceutical industry: used for measuring the osmotic pressure of drug solutions, ensuring that the osmotic pressure of injection and other preparations is consistent with human body fluids, and reducing adverse reactions.

-Biological research: In experiments such as cell culture and tissue preservation, monitor the osmotic pressure of the culture medium or preservation medium to maintain normal cell morphology and function.

-Food industry: Testing the osmotic pressure of juices, beverages, dairy products, etc., evaluating product quality and shelf life.
